Exactly how does the service work?

When you sign up for a Ring-To number, we give you a way to let people call you directly without giving your actual phone number! Here's what happens:

  1. You put the Ring-To widget on your homepage, social networking page, or any other web page.
  2. The Ring-To widget displays an anonymous phone number with your own personal shortcode
  3. Callers dial the anonymous phone number and shortcode, and the call rings on the phone of your choice

You can answer these phone calls on any phone in the continental U.S. and Canada, and your actual phone number is never revealed to the caller!

Can I use this service to make outgoing calls?

Sorry, but no. The Ring-To service is strictly for sending calls from an anonymous number to your phone of choice.

Will I have to give out my number to use this service?

If you want to answer calls through your Ring-To number on your phone, you will need to enter that number in your MyAccount page after signing up. However, we do NOT share your phone number(s) with anyone and your information is safely stored on our secure server.

If you prefer to send all calls to voicemail, a phone number is not required. After you sign up, you can login and set your preference to either take calls or send them directly to voicemail.

Can the caller find out my actual phone number without my consent?

Callers will not know your actual phone number when calling via your Ring-To number. However, if you call someone back, they will be able to see the number you're calling from if they have Caller ID.

Is Caller ID provided with this service?

Yes! Whenever possible, Caller ID will display on your phone just like any other call you might receive. As with any other service, there will be instances where the caller's number is not displayed.

How do I access voicemail?

Voicemail can be accessed in two ways:

  • Via your email, as MP3 attachments
  • From any phone

Your voicemails will always be delivered to you via email as this is the most popular method of retrieving messages. If you can open MP3 files on your computer (and most people can) then it's incredibly easy.

If you don't have access to a computer, though, you can always call in and listen to messages from any phone.

What if someone calls me and I can't or don't want to answer?

If the call is ringing on your phone of choice and you don't pick it up, the call will go to whatever voicemail system is connected to your phone. In other words, if your calls are ringing to your cell phone and you don't answer, your cell phone's voicemail will eventually pick up.

You can always set your Ring-To number to go directly to voicemail if you don't want to be disturbed.

Can I change my Ring-To number?

We're working on developing this feature. In the meantime, because the Basic Ring-To service is free, you can always rejoin and get a different shortcode if needed.

Can I get a Ring-To number in my local area code?

Yes, we offer local numbers at our sister site, www.calldigits.com. It works exactly the same way as the free Ring-To service. A widget that displays CallDigits numbers is not yet available, but will be soon.

How do I put my widget on sites like Myspace, Friendster, eBay, and Facebook?

After you sign up, your MyAccount page will have a special section that shows you how easy it is to add the widget to different websites. In most cases, it's just a matter of copying and pasting a small amount of text.

Can I use this number in ways other than social networking?

There are tons of ways you can use your new Ring-To number! Here are some other popular ways that our service is put to use:

  • Online dating - You don't *really* know who's behind that dating profile, do you?
  • Bars & clubs - He or she might seem nice, but you can't be too careful
  • Classified ads - Stop taking calls the moment your item is sold
  • eBay - Field questions about your auction without advertising your actual number

You can use your Ring-To number however you want!
